Alignment to Australian Curriculum
Our units are fully aligned to the Australian Curriculum including the science understanding, science inquiry skills and the cross-curriculum priorities. We also align to the Design and Technologies section of the Technologies learning area. Components of the general capabilities are included where applicable.
Teaching strategies
The teaching strategies that form the basis of every unit include:
- Explicit teaching which incorporates the I Do, We Do and You Do strategy
- Learning Intentions and success criteria
- Check for Understanding providing opportunity for focused feedback
- Collaborative learning activities
Sustainability
We emphasise sustainability across all units. This includes waste management and reduction, renewable energy and ecosystem management and conservation.
What does a module include?
Online lessons
Updated regularly, each module aligns with the Australian Curriculum and is based primarily on a modified version of the 5Es teaching model: Engage, Explore, Explain, Elaborate and Evaluate. The lessons contain hands-on, minds-on activities and investigations, supported with engaging images and short videos, to elicit and develop students' natural curiosity about the world around them.
Student worksheets
The downloadable student worksheets support students to record their representations, explanations and understandings for each lesson. They can be printed or distributed digitally. The PDFs are screen-to-voice readable and have form functionality, including text and check boxes.
Unit assessment
The Engage, Explore and Explain lessons provide opportunities for diagnostic and formative assessment through periodic reviews, questioning, representations and exit quizzes. In the Elaborate and Evaluate lessons, the summative assessment and marking key enables teachers to assess students' science understanding and science inquiry skills covered in the unit.
Teacher guide
Although the lessons are ready-to-teach and generally self-explanatory, the teacher guide provides information and tips on teaching each lesson, including a materials and equipment list. The teacher guide also provides information about the alignment of the module to the Australian Curriculum.
