What does a module include?
Online lessons
Updated regularly, each module aligns with the Australian Curriculum and is based primarily on a modified version of the 5Es teaching model: Engage, Explore, Explain, Elaborate and Evaluate. The lessons contain hands-on, minds-on activities and investigations, supported with engaging images and short videos, to elicit and develop students' natural curiosity about the world around them.
Student worksheets
The downloadable student worksheets support students to record their representations, explanations and understandings for each lesson. They can be printed or distributed digitally. The PDFs are screen-to-voice readable and have form functionality, including text and check boxes.
Unit assessment
The Engage, Explore and Explain lessons provide opportunities for diagnostic and formative assessment through periodic reviews, questioning, representations and exit quizzes. In the Elaborate and Evaluate lessons, the summative assessment and marking key enables teachers to assess students' science understanding and science inquiry skills covered in the unit.
Teacher guide
Although the lessons are ready-to-teach and generally self-explanatory, the teacher guide provides information and tips on teaching each lesson, including a materials and equipment list. The teacher guide also provides information about the alignment of the module to the Australian Curriculum.
Evidence-based teaching strategies
Our lessons are designed using evidence-based teaching strategies that research
shows have a higher-than-average impact on student learning. These include:
- Cognitive load theory
- Differentiated teaching
- Explicit instruction
- Multiple exposures
- Collaborative learning
- Questioning feedback
- Setting goals
- Structured lessons
First module
Our model Year 4 Biological Sciences module provides teachers with a term’s work of lessons that conceptually build the Science Understanding and Science inquiry skills of the Australian Curriculum through explicit teaching strategies, hands-on activities and inquiry investigations.
The module is available online only. This means we can continually update lessons according to teacher feedback, any new developments in science content or changes to the science curriculum.
We are working hard on developing new modules. This is a passion project for both of us that we are currently fitting in around our paid jobs. We love what we do and are committed to our mission.
