We have decades of experience, not only in the classroom but also working on flagship programs like Primary Connections. Throughout our time reading research and the feedback of hundreds of trial teachers, we dreamed of creating ready-to-teach modules that were responsive, flexible and evolving to meet the needs of teachers across Australia.
We’ve developed a best-practice primary science curriculum module to demonstrate what can be done to integrate explicit instruction within an inquiry approach.

A labour of love
Hello! I’m Kathryn Carter and I spent over 15 years developing and trialling Primary Connections units of work. Being in contact with hundreds of trial teachers, as well as leading experts in both science and educational research, was a true privilege and I learned so much. I also dreamed of using technology to offer more flexibility and responsiveness in the support offered to teachers.
I currently earn my living through my consultancy cottagescience.org. Developing Sprouting Science is a passion project that I work on when I can, in close connection with experienced teachers and scientists.
My dream is to build a suite of modules that:
- support busy teachers to meet curriculum requirements
- can be adapted to suit the interests and abilities of their class
- can offer options for students with diverse needs
- are constantly being developed and improved through a community-of-practice approach.
